Silicon carbide is smelted in electric resistance furnace with quartz and petroleum coke. (Petroleum coke: the nature of it is one type of carbon form in partial graphitization, black color with porous, stacked granular, do not melt, the main element content is C or contain little H,N,S,O and some metal element, some still with some water. It is widely used in metallurgy, chemical industry and so on as the raw material for electrode or chemical industry production.)
It can be divided into two types of black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide. They all belong to α-SiC, both are hexagonal crystal, proportion 32.-3.25, microhardness is 2840-3320kg/mm^2.
Black silicon carbide: contain 95% Si, its tenacity higher than green silicon carbide, almost all be used to machining the material with lower tensile strength, like glass, ceramic, stone, refractory material, cast iron and non-ferrous metal and so on.
Green silicon carbide: contain 97% Si or above, self-sharpness is perfect, almost all be used to machining the hard metal, Titanium alloy and optical glass, can also be used to the fine grinding high speed steel cutter.
The performance: chemical performance stable, high thermal conductivity, good wear-resistant performance, very hard.
Scope of use: abrasive, abrasives, refractory material industry.
